Cultural Organizing Summer Internship

Create Forward is seeking a creative, resourceful, self-starter ready for an opportunity to hone their skills as a cultural organizer. This intern will support the day to day management of a national community storytelling project on mass incarceration called MASS STORY LAB. Mass Story Lab has travel to nine U.S cities reckoning with the impact of mass incarceration. The Cultural Organizing Intern will support the Create Forward team in reaching these communities. Create Forward is a social impact firm with a growing client portfolio that includes major cultural institutions, foundations, universities, and a national humanities network. We design innovative strategies to advance equity and justice. We are a learning organization and seek creative thinkers who want to work collaboratively to generate new projects and internal systems that constantly improve the quality of our work in communities.

Community Organizing Intern will be responsible for the following:

  • Attend meetings and conference calls and maintain meeting minutes;

  • Research community demographics and local policy around criminal justice reform; in local cities in preparation for Mass Story events;

  • Assist with development of online resources for community engagement and storytelling;

  • Organize and archive video and photo content generated from each Mass Story Lab;

  • Engage our audience via social media channels;

  • Generate content for Mass Story Lab blog.

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Strong  written and verbal communications skills;

  • Resourceful and energized by working at a startup company;

  • Demonstrated commitment to social justice with a particular interest in criminal justice reform;

  • A background in storytelling and/or creative writing;

  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office, Keynote, and Squarespace

  • Experience editing video content using iMovie

  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
