Internship Opportunity: Community Organizing

 

Create Forward is seeking a creative, resourceful, self-starter seeking an opportunity to hone their skills as a community organizer.  This intern will support the roll out of a national participatory storytelling project on mass incarceration called MASS STORY LAB. Mass Story Lab will travel to 20 U.S cities grappling with the impact of mass incarceration. Create Forward is an emerging social enterprise with a growing client portfolio that includes major cultural institutions, foundations, universities, and a national humanities network. We design innovative strategies for social changed that activate the collective imagination toward a compelling vision for the communities we want to live and work in. We are a learning organization and seek creative thinkers who want to work collaboratively to generate new projects and internal systems that constantly improve the quality of work in communities.

 

Community Organizing Intern will be responsible for the following:

·      Drafting communications with community partners;

·      Attend meetings and conference calls and maintain meeting minutes

·      Maintain a national calendar of upcoming Mass Story Lab dates;

·      Opportunity to travel to Mass Story Lab convening and document your experience;

·      Research on community demographics and local policy around criminal justice reform in local cities in preparation for Mass Story events;

·      Assist with development of digital tools for community engagement and storytelling;

·      Identify target cities and potential partner organizations and assist with outreach;

·      Support local partners as they plan their Mass Story Lab events.

·      Organize and archive content generated from each Mass Story Lab

·      Assist with storyteller trainings

 

The Ideal Candidate:

·      Excellent written and verbal communications skills

·      Resourceful and energized by working at a start-up company

·      Demonstrated commitment to social justice with a particular interest in criminal justice reform

·      Some facilitation and program development experience is helpful

·      A background in storytelling and/or creative writing is helpful

·      Proficient use of Microsoft Office and Keynote;

·      Ability to work independently with limited supervision.

Commitment: Schedule is flexible. Interns are expected to commit to 12-hr per week.

Communications and Social Media Intern

 

Create Forward is seeking a creative, resourceful, self-starter seeking an opportunity to hone their skills as an emerging communications professional. This internship is ideal for someone passionate about community development and social justice. The right candidate will support the delivery of our communications multiplatform strategy and develop a strong portfolio of projects that will propel them forward professionally (so no getting coffee and doing mindless grunt work).

We design innovative strategies for social changed that activate the collective imagination toward a compelling vision for the communities we want to live and work in. We are a learning organization and seek creative thinkers who want to work collaboratively to generate new projects and internal systems that constantly improve the quality of work in communities.

 

Communications intern will be responsible for the following:

·      Drafting letters to partners, sponsors, and donors

·      Research content for blogs and social media posts

·      Create Powerpoint Presentations

·      Assist with maintaining editorial calendar

·      Schedule social media posts and make minor updates to the CF website

·      Generate content for bi-weekly email newsletter

·      Write blog posts profiling community initiatives

·      Create something new: take on one project of your own that helps to advance the company’s mission. This is your opportunity to build your professional portfolio and leave your mark on the company.

 

The Ideal Candidate:

·      Excellent written and verbal communications skills;

·      Resourceful and energized by working at a start-up company;

·      Demonstrated commitment to social justice;

·      Demonstrated knowledge of effective social media engagement as a personal and business development strategy;

·      Proficient use of Adobe Indesign, Photoshop and/or other photo editing software;

·      Proficient use of Microsoft Office and Keynote;

·      Can navigate Squarespace websites;

·      Ability to work independently with limited supervision;
